Responsibilities
Position Summary
The Field Education Assistant will support the implementation, monitoring and reporting of education projects at field level in Deir ez-Zor Governorate. The position will work closely with schools, teachers, students, parents, education authorities, partners and other relevant stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of education activities and achievement of project objectives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Preparation and School Engagement
• Participate with the Directorate of Education in the selection of teachers and administrative staff for the project.
• Conduct orientation sessions for selected teachers on project objectives, expectations, roles and responsibilities.
• Ensure that all selected teachers sign and comply with the Plan International Code of Conduct and relevant policies.
• Conduct assessments of schools, teachers and students to identify project-related needs.
• Support the organization of intensive teacher capacity-building sessions before the start of project activities.
• Conduct orientation sessions for parents and students on Plan International and the project, including objectives, duration, expectations and requirements.
• Participate in developing the school lesson/activity schedule and report any challenges or changes to the Education Supervisor.
2. Student Assessment and Learning Support
• Supervise and support the administration of pre-tests in participating schools.
• Mark and record pre-test results and work with school management to group students according to their learning levels and age-appropriate grades.
• Review students’ assessment results and identify those requiring additional learning support in accordance with project criteria.
• Identify students’ learning gaps and support teachers in addressing priority areas during classroom sessions.
• Work with teachers to develop regular assessments to measure students’ learning progress, including bi-weekly assessments by subject.
• Enter assessment results into the learning improvement tracking sheet.
• Support the development and administration of post-tests.
• Mark post-tests, record results and update the learning improvement tracking system.
3. Project Monitoring and Classroom Support
• Monitor daily teacher attendance, maintain accurate and up-to-date attendance records and verify daily attendance signatures.
• Monitor student attendance and participation and report any significant concerns or changes.
• Conduct regular classroom observations to monitor teacher performance, teaching practices and student participation.
• Complete teacher observation tools and submit them to the Education Supervisor, highlighting areas requiring further teacher capacity building.
• Attend teacher training and capacity-building sessions and prepare reports covering topics discussed, number of participants and observed outcomes.
• Monitor project implementation and report any challenges or changes to the Supervisor.
• Provide lists of educational materials and supplies required for project implementation as needed.
4. Psychosocial Support and Student Wellbeing
• Track and document psychosocial support sessions on a daily basis, including location, topics covered, number of individual and group sessions, participants and observed outcomes.
• Identify concerns affecting students’ participation, wellbeing and learning and communicate them to the relevant project staff.
• Follow up on referrals with relevant service providers and humanitarian organizations, as appropriate.
5. Community and Stakeholder Engagement
• Maintain effective communication and coordination with school management, teachers, students, parents, the Directorate of Education and other relevant stakeholders.
• Support activities aimed at strengthening parents’ and communities’ engagement in education.
• Work with relevant stakeholders to identify and address challenges affecting children’s participation and learning.
• Support the development and implementation of school education plans and other education-related activities.
6. Data Collection, MEAL and Documentation
• Collect data required for education project assessments, monitoring and reporting under the supervision of the Education and MEAL teams.
• Support pre- and post-intervention data collection, including learning outcome assessments and other project assessments.
• Work closely with the MEAL team and project data management staff in data collection, entry, processing and analysis.
• Collect and maintain accurate project data and ensure that relevant records and databases are regularly updated.
• Maintain organized project documentation and filing systems in line with Plan International requirements and data protection standards.
• Support the collection of information required for project monitoring, evaluation and learning.
7. Reporting and Documentation
• Prepare weekly education project reports covering attendance, psychosocial support sessions, parenting activities, teacher capacity building, classroom activities and other relevant project components.
• Take high-quality photographs of project activities on a daily basis, in line with Plan International’s visibility, consent and safeguarding requirements.
• Select and submit the best photographs on a monthly basis for project documentation and reporting.
• Develop high-quality success stories in coordination with the Education Supervisor and relevant project staff.
9. Administrative and Other Responsibilities
• Support administrative activities related to project implementation, including HR, logistics, procurement and secretarial tasks, as required.
• Maintain effective communication with schools, teachers, education authorities, partners and other relevant stakeholders.
• Comply with Plan International policies, procedures, safeguarding standards, PSEA requirements, Code of Conduct and other applicable organizational requirements.
• Perform any other duties relevant to the position as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
• University degree in Education, Education Management, Social Sciences, or a related field.
• Previous experience in implementing or monitoring education projects, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts.
• Experience working with schools, teachers, children and education authorities.
• Experience in student assessment, classroom observation and learning improvement activities.
• Good understanding of education and learning needs of children.
• Experience in data collection, data entry and basic data analysis.
• Good reporting and documentation skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with teachers, school management, government authorities, partners and communities.
• Ability to work independently in the field and manage multiple tasks.
• Good computer skills, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Fluency in Arabic and good working knowledge of English is an advantage.
