Responsibilities
Supervision & Coordination
• Supervise and provide technical support to nursing teams in all supported departments: maternity, neonatal care, OT, and sterilization.
• Act as the primary focal point for nursing-related issues across the hospital, supporting nurses in identifying, reporting, and resolving challenges in collaboration with relevant supervisors and medical staff.
• Collaborate closely with the DOH Nurse Supervisor (if applicable) to ensure aligned practices and smooth co-management.
• Maintain open and regular communication with the IPC, midwifery, pharmacy, and medical supervisors to ensure cohesive planning and implementation of care activities.
• Organize regular meetings with nursing staff to address challenges, communicate updates, and reinforce MSF protocols. Referral & Interdepartmental Collaboration
• Ensure good collaboration and referral mechanisms between the MSF-supported services and other hospital departments, including the ER (not directly supported) and wards.
• Facilitate timely and appropriate referrals for maternal, neonatal, and malnutrition cases when necessary, liaising with medical and nutrition focal points.
• Establish and maintain good working relationships with the DOH and external referral facilities, ensuring continuity of care and accurate documentation.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration
• Promote collaborative workflows between nursing teams and other departments, especially IPC, midwifery, pharmacy, and medical services, to enhance quality of care and patient safety.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and case discussions to ensure integrated patient management and timely problem-solving.
• Coordinate with the DOH supervisors across departments to align on procedures, documentation standards, and patient care priorities.
Support for Emergency Preparedness & MCI
• Participate in MCI planning and simulation activities and act as the nursing focal point during MCIs.
• Ensure nursing staff are trained and understand their roles during mass casualty incidents.
IPC and Quality of Care
• Support the IPC Supervisor in promoting infection prevention and control measures, especially in maternity, OT, neonatal, and sterilization areas.
• Monitor nursing practices and hygiene standards to ensure compliance with IPC protocols.
Capacity Building & HR
• Identify training needs and support the planning and facilitation of on-the-job training and mentorship for the nursing team.
• Contribute to performance evaluations and follow-up of nursing staff in collaboration with HR and PMR.
• Support orientation and onboarding for newly recruited nurses.
Reporting & Monitoring
• Ensure proper documentation and reporting of nursing activities and challenges to the Deputy Project Medical Referent (dep PMR) and PMR.
• Monitor staffing levels, supply needs, and nursing workload, flagging concerns to the management team.


Qualifications
Education:Specialty (nurse or anesthetist) diploma essential.

Experience:
Essential 2 years of previous experience in the same position.
Desirable previous experience with MSF or other NGOs in developing countries.

Languages:Arabic and English languages are essential.
Others: Computer literacy, (words, excel, PowerPoint, outlook) is mandatory.



Specific Vacancy Requirements
Place of work:

•Daraa - Nawa Hospital: The 1st position will be temporarily based in Damascus and shifted to Daraa/Nawa Hospital in the coming period.

•Northwest Syria “NWS”: The 2nd position will be based in Idlib – Atimah catchment area with several visits around 50% to Homs Governorate.
