Responsibilities
The Driver and Logistic assistant based in Damascus supports the Swiss Humanitarian Office Syria by ensuring the transport of goods and people in Syria or to and from the neighboring countries. The candidate prepares and executes these transports in a timely manner and with utmost professionalism and ensures the maintenance and condition of the duty vehicles as well as their preparation in accordance to the trips planned. The candidate assists the Logistic Officer in diverse logistic issues like procurement of good maintenance of the office and residences, and other duties as requested.
The list of tasks includes the following:
Driving (80%):
1 Drive as per request, including field trips within Syria, transportation of people and material to and from Lebanon and / or Jordan in a safe, respectful reliable and comfortable manner.
2 Guarantee passengers’ wellbeing and safety adapting driving and trips to their needs and requests.
3 Respect other vehicles and pedestrians always keeping a calm and courteous attitude.
4 Maintain office cars, including cleaning, logbook entries, car service, fuel supply, parking fees, registration, insurances, documentation to cross borders and check points as per regulations.
5 Ensure provision and maintenance of first aid kits, food and water in the vehicles.
6 Inform the passengers about rules and regulations as well as any useful information.
Logistics Assistant (20%):
1 Supply and/or procure items or services for office and residence(s) directly or through third party with limited approval authorization.
2 Assist in the proper functionality of all office services (stationary supply, drinking & running water, electricity supply, AC, batteries, gas, heating system, pharmacy, etc.) directly or through third party contracting with related papers in order.
3 Deliver documents to Ministries and UN offices.
4 Assist in the maintenance and functioning of all communication and office equipment (mobile phones, land lines, fax, printers and other IT devices).
5 Assist office staff and the Security Focal Point for security in general, assess security before field trips.
6 Be available to execute other tasks not mentioned in the job description when requested by superiors or when the circumstances require it.

Qualifications
1 Valid driving license (permit and training for armored cars is an asset).
2 Excellent driving skills.
3 Pragmatic, punctual under any circumstances, organized, reliable, flexible.
4 Excellent knowledge of regional geography (roads, checkpoints, systems, etc.).
5 Capacity to interact with security personnel at checkpoints and border controls.
6 Capacity to interact with authorities and diplomatic personnel during official missions.
7 Good oral and written communication skills in Arabic and English.
8 High motivation and commitment to work for a governmental agency.
9 Self-awareness, high ethical and professional standards, cultural sensitivity, team player and service orientation.
10 Basic computer skills (MS Office).

About us
The Swiss Humanitarian Office Syria was established in December 2017 to strengthen the implementation and monitoring of the Swiss humanitarian programme components implemented from Damascus, to foster the dialogue with and the support to partners operating from Damascus, as well as to ensure regular contact and dialogue with local authorities concerned with humanitarian interventions in Syria. Overall coordination, substantive guidance and support will remain with the Regional Cooperation Office in Amman, within the framework of the Swiss Cooperation Programme Middle East 2019-2024 in line with SDC’s Whole-of-Syria approach.
