Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities

Donor Communications and Visibility

· Support the PDM team to produce high-quality visual and written materials for donor reports, proposals, and visibility deliverables.

· Draft field updates and case studies that demonstrate operational impact in line with donor priorities.

· Assist in preparing communication packages and social media content linked to active donor projects.

Media & HQ Liaison

· Support coordination with HALO’s global Communications team by preparing background information, captions, and draft materials.

· Assist in tracking and summarising media coverage relevant to HALO’s work in Syria.

· Maintain & update HALO Syria’s library of media and visibility materials (photos, videos, stories).

· Provide logistical and administrative support for communications requests and campaigns.

Content Creation & Storytelling

· Accompany field teams to collect stories, quotes, and photographs that illustrate HALO’s impact.

· Assist in creating and editing visual content in collaboration with field teams and photographers.

· Draft social media or newsletter content for the PDM team.

· Support field team training on content capture, including how to collect photos, quotes, and stories.

· Ensure all communications adhere to HALO brand guidelines and ethical storytelling standards.

Media & Donor Visit Coordination

· Support the planning and coordination of donor, partner, or media visits to field sites.

· Help prepare briefing materials, itineraries, and background notes.

· Document visits (e.g. collecting photos or quotes) for communications outputs.

Professional Development

· Gain exposure to donor relations, reporting, proposal development, and strategic communications within a humanitarian context.

· Participate in internal training and contribute to team meetings and planning.

· Participate in learning and development opportunities related to media, communications, stakeholder engagement, and NGO operations.

· Support cross-functional teams as needed, contributing to broader programme goals and learning how a humanitarian NGO operates.

Qualifications
Person Specification

Essential

· Exceptional written and spoken English skills.

· Strong organisational abilities and attention to detail.

· Demonstrated interest in humanitarian, development, or NGO work.

· Confidence in communicating with internal and external stakeholders.

· Willingness to travel to field locations across Syria, sometimes at short notice.

Desirable

· Experience with social media content creation (Instagram, Twitter/X, Facebook, LinkedIn).

· Understanding of ethical storytelling and media protocols in humanitarian settings.

· Basic skills in photography, video editing, or design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe).

· Graduate qualification in journalism, communications or related field.

Salary and Benefits
Job Title: Media and Communications Intern Location: Damascus or Idleb, with frequent travel to HALO’s operational sites across Syria

Reports to: Head of Partnerships & Donor Management
Duration: 6 months, with a possibility of extension

Compensation: Paid internship (monthly stipend provided) Start Date: 4 January 2026
