Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
A. Data Collection & Fieldwork (Primary Focus - 80%)
• Conduct household surveys, interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), and key informant interviews (KIIs) using digital data collection tools (e.g., Kobo Collect, ODK,) or paper forms.
• Accurately collect and record data on demographics, needs, vulnerabilities, assistance received, and feedback according to established protocols.
• Identify and respectfully approach sampled households or beneficiaries in communities, displacement camps, or hard-to-reach areas.
• Clearly explain the purpose of the survey, ensure informed consent, and maintain confidentiality of all respondents.
• Ensure data quality by checking for completeness and consistency at the point of collection.
• Transmit collected data daily to supervisors as required.
B. Community Engagement & Communication
• Act as a professional and respectful representative of the organization in the community.
• Build rapport with community leaders and members to facilitate access and trust.
• Clearly communicate the organization’s mandate and the purpose of data collection in a culturally sensitive manner.
• Respond to basic questions from respondents or refer them to appropriate services/information channels.
C. Logistics & Reporting
• Participate actively in training on survey tools, methodology, humanitarian principles, and codes of conduct.
• Take good care of assigned data collection equipment (tablets, phones, chargers, IDs).
• Submit daily or weekly reports on progress, challenges, and field observations to the supervisor.
• Report any serious protection concerns, security incidents, or complaints from the community immediately through designated channels.
D. Compliance & Ethics
• Adhere strictly to humanitarian principles (Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence).
• Follow all organizational codes of conduct, including PSEA (Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) policies and child safeguarding guidelines.
• Ensure do no harm and prioritize the safety and dignity of respondents above all else.
• Maintain complete neutrality and do not influence respondent answers.


Qualifications
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
• Education: Secondary school diploma required. Diploma or degree in social sciences, statistics, agriculture, or related field is an asset.
• Experience: Previous experience in data collection, surveying, census work, or community mobilization, preferably in an NGO or humanitarian setting.
• Languages: Arabic, working knowledge of English is required.
• Skills:
o Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
o Ability to use Android smartphones/tablets for data entry.
o Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
o Ability to walk long distances, spend full days in the field, and work in harsh environmental conditions.


Specific Vacancy Requirements
Desirable:
• Understanding of local culture, customs, and geography.
• Knowledge of key humanitarian concepts (e.g., targeting, vulnerability criteria).
• Experience with specific sectoral surveys (e.g., Livelihoods, WASH, FSA).
