Responsibilities
Image Analysts are responsible for processing and analyzing data from Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs/drones) collected by the program’s drone pilots. They provide direct operational support through the outputs generated from their analysis and contribute to the development and deployment of remote sensing capabilities within the HALO Syria program and its operational outputs. They may also be required to analyze satellite imagery according to program needs. Imagery-based products form an essential part of task planning within the program, and the analysis provided by Image Analysts to operational teams is linked to survey and remote sensing capabilities.
The Image Analyst leads the analysis of all aerial imagery generated from drone flights and produces accurate and timely outputs that provide enhanced imagery and supporting evidence for current and future tasks. A key responsibility of the role is to ensure that safe, efficient working practices are followed and that all activities comply with the program’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Responsibilities:
Operations:
Support the program’s remote sensing and survey activities by:
•Ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across all operational activities.
•Preparing, analyzing and producing all imagery-based planning products to support field clearance activities, in accordance with applicable procedures, and reviewing and updating image analysis activities whenever changes occur.
•Using only the program-approved symbology and standards when documenting and mapping evidence extracted from drone imagery.
•Planning and carrying out office-based work associated with image analysis activities to ensure the highest levels of efficiency and effectiveness in the use of survey assets and resources across all operational areas.
•Supporting less-experienced Image Analysts during their initial period of employment until they demonstrate their ability and competence to work independently.
•Providing technical advice and feedback to drone teams regarding the preparation and prioritization of current and future tasks, maximizing the use of remote sensing capabilities throughout work cycles.
•Participating in meetings related to operational planning and providing briefings on work completed during the previous cycle and plans for the upcoming cycle.
Training
Support the drone program through:
•Assisting in the planning and delivery of Image Analysis Operator training courses according to program needs, including ensuring that new Image Analysts are familiar with HALO operational SOPs.
•Supporting the program with any enquiries related to remote sensing.
•Identifying potential gaps in training or professional experience and working to address them.
Operational Staff Management:
•Contributing to maintaining workplace discipline when required and promoting good working practices.
•Assisting in planning the deployment of drone teams to ensure a balanced distribution of qualified and suitable personnel across the different teams.
Security and Safety:
•Monitoring the activities of drone teams, ensuring that any changes in the security situation are communicated to them, and managing team deployment to minimize potential risks.
•Ensuring that teams comply with all required security measures and procedures during their daily activities.
Logistics:
•Providing the necessary input to local and international procurement processes to ensure that sufficient and appropriate equipment is available to meet the needs of drone teams.
•Supporting the management of drone team assets and equipment.
•Assisting in identifying, preparing and introducing new operational equipment that supports workflows and improves operations.
Additional Duties
•Undertaking any other activities within the scope of the role, skills and experience, as directed by senior Operations staff.

Essential:
•Advanced computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
•Good spoken English and communication skills.
•Experience using Geographic Information System (GIS) software such as ArcGIS and QGIS.
Desirable:
•A university degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or a related field, or at least two years of professional experience in the field.
•Experience using aerial imagery processing software such as Pix4D Mapper, Agisoft or Map2Drone.
•Experience using ArcGIS Enterprise.
•Experience with, or willingness to learn, Python or other programming languages to automate workflows within ArcGIS Enterprise.
