Responsibilities
Position Summary
Plan International is looking for a qualified and motivated Education Officer to support the planning, implementation, monitoring, and quality assurance of education projects in Deir ez-Zor.
The Education Officer will provide technical support to education activities, coordinate closely with project staff, teachers, school management, volunteers, implementing partners, and relevant education authorities, and contribute to ensuring the quality and effectiveness of education interventions in line with project objectives, donor requirements, and Plan International policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
1. Education Project Implementation and Technical Support
• Support the development and implementation of education activities, including remedial classes, teacher capacity building, basic literacy and numeracy, early childhood education, recreational activities, and other education interventions, in line with the project logframe, budget, and work plan.
• Conduct and support education needs assessments, baseline and endline data collection, surveys, and other assessments in coordination with MEAL staff and education volunteers.
• Support the identification and registration of children and youth for education activities in accordance with project and donor eligibility criteria.
• Support and participate in the selection of teachers and education personnel in coordination with relevant stakeholders.
• Participate in the design and implementation of education assessments, including teacher training needs, student participation and learning, school management, and parent and community engagement.
• Participate and contribute effectively to education projects and ensure adherence to Plan International policies, procedures, and donor requirements.
• Engage with communities and community leaders to provide information about education activities and encourage meaningful community participation.
• Monitor teaching and learning processes and provide technical feedback and recommendations to improve the quality of education.
• Assess and support the quality and standards of teaching and learning activities.
• Conduct feedback sessions with teachers, parents, students, and community representatives to assess the quality and relevance of project activities and provide recommendations for improvement.
• Ensure the timely procurement, development, and distribution of education materials and equipment in accordance with approved procedures.
• Participate in the design of teacher and volunteer training programmes based on identified needs.
• Contribute to the development and adaptation of training materials and modules in both Arabic and English.
• Conduct or support teacher training and technical capacity-building activities as required.
• Support the development and use of monitoring and assessment tools to measure learning outcomes and inform project improvements.
• Develop and maintain student progress tracking tools and support the preparation and review of tests and assessment tools.
• Monitor the implementation of education activities and provide technical support to address challenges and improve implementation quality.
• Conduct regular field monitoring visits to project locations to monitor activities, follow up on progress, identify challenges, and provide practical recommendations.
• Coordinate with teachers, school principals, education volunteers, and other relevant education personnel to develop and regularly update activity schedules.
• Organize and monitor training activities for teachers and education volunteers and prepare training reports in Arabic and English.
• Collect and analyse education-related information and provide technical advice and support to implementing partners and education personnel.
• Maintain regular communication with the Programme Manager and provide updates on project implementation, achievements, challenges, and required actions.
• Review Arabic and English translations of education-related materials when requested.
• Communicate with children, parents, teachers, and other project participants to collect feedback and suggestions for improving project activities.
• Ensure that relevant project documentation, including attendance records, teacher timesheets, compensation documentation, procurement requests, and other supporting documents, is properly collected and maintained.
2. Monitoring, Reporting and Documentation
• Prepare and submit weekly and ad hoc reports on education project implementation, achievements, challenges, and progress in Arabic and English.
• Maintain accurate records of education activities and follow up on agreed actions and recommendations.
• Support the collection, documentation, and analysis of project data and evidence.
• Collect and document success stories, lessons learned, and good practices from project activities.
• Take appropriate photographs of project activities while respecting Plan International's safeguarding, consent, and data protection requirements.
• Compile and submit a selection of high-quality project photographs and supporting documentation on a monthly basis.
• Contribute to project reviews, lessons learned exercises, and recommendations for improving the quality and effectiveness of education interventions.
• Immediately report any significant implementation challenges, safeguarding concerns, or other issues through the appropriate channels.


Qualifications
• University degree in Education, Educational Sciences, Social Sciences, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience in education projects, preferably with NGOs or international organizations.
• Experience in implementing and monitoring education activities, including teacher training and learning support.
• Experience working with teachers, schools, communities, and/or implementing partners.
• Good understanding of education in emergencies, inclusive education, and child-centred learning approaches.
• Experience in conducting education assessments and analysing education-related data.
• Strong reporting, documentation, and communication skills.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
• Fluency in Arabic and good working proficiency in English.
• Willingness and ability to conduct regular field visits within the project locations.
• Strong interpersonal, coordination, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
